5 Couples Leap Into Marriage Vegas-Style on Leap Day

Every four years we experience a leap year when an extra day is added to the end of February. In true Vegas style, this unusual day celebrated the leap any couple will take in their lives.

On Leap Day morning, five brides took the leap by ziplining 12 stories above the LINQ Casino’s Promenade in their wedding dresses. This was not your typical, somber limo arrival, but a playfully dramatic wedding dripping with Vegas style. The only thing missing was an Elvis impersonator.

However, the zipline wasn’t the scary part.

After the brides landed safely at the Linq Casino, they again ascended to their wedding ceremony atop the High Roller. The High Roller Ferris wheel soars 550-feet into the air and is the world’s tallest observation wheel. It stands above the Linq Promenade, the casino’s cheerful outdoor shopping and dining district.

The five lucky brides tied the knot high above Sin City, officially making it a Leap Day wedding.

Choosing the Five Lucky Couples

The five lucky couples were contestants in the Take the Leap,” contest, sponsored by 102.7 Coyote Country, and hosted by radio personality Jeff Kurkjian.

The contest asked applicants to share their love story, as well as promising to participate in the unique ceremony the station had dreamed up at The LINQ Promenade and High Roller. That special day injected more adrenaline into the ceremony than most brides are used to.

“All 5 families who entered all had fantastic stories,” Kurkjian said. “All were blended families coming from different backgrounds, but everyone now calls Las Vegas home.”

The five winning couples ziplined together across the LINQ Promenade going straight to the top of High Roller for a wedding ceremony they’ll never forget. To top it off, the weddings were officiated by Kurkijan, cohost of Jeff and Aimee in the Morning, on 102.7 The Coyote.

However, the Vegas-style celebration didn’t stop there. Each couple enjoyed a gorgeous reception at the Minus 5 ICEBAR inside the Linq; the Minus 5 ICEBAR is literally built out of 90-tons of ice. Everything is made out of ice, including the drink glasses. It’s like being inside a giant, party igloo.

Finally, the five loving couples enjoyed a complimentary stay at The LINQ hotel-casino for their special, Las Vegas Honeymoon.

The First Lucky Couple Selected for a Leap Day Wedding

The first couple was selected from an email submission by then single Zennetta Taylor.

In her heartfelt email, Zennetta described an eight-year relationship with her fiancé, as well as the opposition the couple faced early on from both sides of their family. She also described how living in California didn’t give them the financial security they needed to get married sooner.

“Both sides of the family were against our relationship from the very beginning. They even called it a phase we would grow out of. We face a lot of challenges as a couple but we stayed strong and stayed together. We’ve been engaged for two years, and always talked about getting married, but circumstances have always delayed our plans.”

After the couple, who share a seven-year-old daughter, moved to Las Vegas, they were met with a new “setback.” They had planned to save enough money for a wedding and to buy a house, but, as Zenetta continued in her letter:

“We were on track to obtain our goals, then we found out we were expecting a baby. We were thrilled. But then we found out we were expecting triplets, and our plans had to be put on hold again.

“I hope we’ll be considered for this contest, it would be absolutely amazing to finally have a wedding. My fiancé always takes care of us and does everything for our family. Either by working two or three jobs, or by staying home with our daughter while I go to work. I want to surprise him with a real wedding to show my deep love and appreciation.”
