MGM Resorts International Gives $1 Million For Employee Emergency Fund and Donates Tons of Food Across The US

MGM Resorts International recently unveiled a wide array of initiatives designed to support those financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. MGM’s initiatives include donating nearly 400,000 meals across the country, and $1 million for an employee emergency grant fund.

“As we confront an extraordinary and unprecedented global pandemic, we acknowledge that this is an extremely uncertain and challenging time for many of our employees and their families, as well as their friends and neighbors. We are committed to helping those in need,” stated Bill Hornbuckle, Acting CEO and President of MGM Resorts International. “We have a number of programs to help our fellow workers, including greatly increasing eligibility for the MGM Employee Emergency Grant Fund. In fact, MGM Resorts International is donating $1 million to disaster relief, offering additional support to our employees impacted by this crisis and who are experiencing hardships.”

Hornbuckle further stated, “We have also increased our commitment to our communities around the country. Over the last week, MGM has donated the equal of 400,000 meals to local food banks to reduce food insecurity in the country.”

Several months ago, MGM Resorts launched Focused on What Matters, a fearless move towards sustainability and social responsibility. Focused on What Matters is a company-wide program dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities where MGM operates. Goals the company wants to reach by 2025 include 1 million volunteer hours within the community as well as 5 million meals donated to community food banks through its Feeding Forward program.

MGM Resorts Emergency Relief Fund

The MGM Resorts Emergency Relief Fund affords employees and their immediate family short-term relief for making their monthly payments or other obligations during unexpected emergencies and hardships. MGM’s recent $1 million pledge will expand the fund’s coverage to assist employees impacted by the current crisis. Those covered include both full-time employees and on-call employees, as well as those facing separation, layoff or furlough.

Nationwide Community Food Donations

Due to the decision to temporarily close its properties nationwide, MGM Resorts International has donated more than 480,000 pounds of food, equivalent to 400,000 meals, to the community food banks in which it operates. MGM Resorts is working closely with local food banks to make sure that all of the fresh food from its resorts is quickly and safely donated to charitable organizations.

MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas, NV

Across the Las Vegas Valley, MGM Resorts has launched on-the-ground support and in-kind donations to various local community agencies and organizations. Thus far, MGM has donated more than 300,000 pounds of food to Three Square Food Bank, equaling more than 250,000 meals to people in need. Likewise, nonperishable food has been donated from our many properties along The Strip, as well as bags for distributing food to those in need. MGM will continue working with Three Square Food Bank, as well as other food banks throughout the valley to manage donations and food storage.

MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD

MGM National Harbor is working with food donation partner Nourish Now to donate 55,000 pounds of food to community nonprofit organizations. This will provide over 45,000 meals to Maryland residents throughout Prince George’s County and Montgomery County.

MGM Springfield Springfield, MA

Our property in Springfield has donated more than 12,000 pounds of food to the Friends of the Homeless, Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and Open Pantry Community Services. The food donations will provide more than 10,000 meals to needy Springfield residents.

Beau Rivage Biloxi, MS

Beau Rivage Resort Casino has donated 25,000 pounds of food to several organizations including Loaves & Fishes, Extra Table, the Hancock County Food Pantry and the Lord is My Help. The food donations will give South Mississippi families who suddenly have found themselves in need of more than 20,000 meals.

Gold Strike, Tunica, MS

The Gold Strike casino has donated 10,000 pounds of food to the Sacred Hearth Southern Mission, which is more than 8,000 meals.

MGM Northfield Park, Northfield, OH

Working alongside JACK Thistledown and JACK Casino, MGM Northfield Park has donated more than 3,000 pounds of food, equaling 2,500 meals to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. They are continuing to donate throughout the week.

MGM Grand Detroit, Detroit, MI

MGM Grand Detroit has donated nearly 15,000 pounds of dairy products and produce, equaling 12,500 meals, to Forgotten Harvest, a food distribution channel. To further provide critical aid to the city, MGM Grand Detroit also donated 3,000 gloves to the medical professionals in Detroit.

Borgata, Atlantic City, NJ

The Borgata has donated more than 35,000 pounds of food, equaling 30,000 meals, to the Community Food Bank of NJ and the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic County.

Empire City, Yonkers, NY

Empire City Casino donated approximately 25,000 pounds of food to Cariats of Port Chester NY, which equals 20,000 meals.
