LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Department of Taxation issued Public Safety Notice Advisory # 2020-05 on February 21, 2020, advising consumers and medical marijuana patients to avoid marijuana products subject to this notice. These batches of marijuana failed secondary microbial testing.
The health advisory follows an ongoing investigation performed by the independent testing company, CANNEX Nevada LLC. The investigation began in December 2019, when four batches of marijuana failed testing for various yeasts and molds. CANNEX Nevada LLC, is an independent marijuana testing facility that provides test results to the growers.
To date, there are no known reports of illness caused by the products, however, health could be adversely affected by exposure to yeast and mold. At this time, there is no reason to believe that the growers or dispensaries had any knowledge that the products exceeded allowable yeast and mold limits.
Visitors to Las Vegas should note that while recreational marijuana has been legal in Nevada since 2017, public consumption is not, and that includes using it at most hotels and casinos. You can check to see if your hotel is cannabis-friendly.
It is legal to purchase marijuana if you are 21 or older, and it is legal to possess up to one ounce for personal use in Las Vegas. Remember, it is illegal to smoke or consume marijuana products in public, in a vehicle, or on federal land. That means it is risky to smoke marijuana on a visit to Lake Mead or Red Rocks Canyon, west of Las Vegas.

The marijuana in question was grown by the following growers and was harvested between May 2019 and November 2019:

As many as 30 dispensaries sold the affected marijuana in the form of buds and pre-rolls between October 25, 2019, and January 16, 2020. The best way to know if you purchased any of the affected marijuana is to check the label for the grower and the batch number. All marijuana products sold by a licensed dispensary should have a product label on the package. The batch and lot number can be found on the label, just below the facility information.
